Hunger Programs

Throughout our many partner organizations, there are three Hunger Programs that we participate in:

Community Food Pantry

The Food Pantry provides nonperishable groceries and limited refrigerated and frozen foods to 500 to 800 people every month. At the community food pantry, volunteers order food, unload deliveries, pre-pack bags and distribute food. A special program, Good Stuff to Do, allows parents and young children to pre-pack bags and other tasks behind the scenes. For more information, or to volunteer with this program, contact Hyde Park Union Church at office@hpuc.org or 773-363-6063.

Time and Location
Every Saturday from 10am-1pm at
Hyde Park Union Church
5600 S. Woodlawn
Chicago, IL 60637

Soup Kitchen

The soup kitchen offers a hot breakfast and noon meal 6 days a week to anyone in need. Those who volunteer help prepare and serve meals. The church also hosts the Sanders free Clinic on Fridays, which provides individuals without health insurance access to a physician and a foot clinic. The Interfaith Council provides some financial support for the free clinic. To volunteer with the soup kitchen, please contact the church at kenwooducc@sbcglobal.net or 773-373-2861.

Time and Location
Monday through Saturday from 9am-1pm at
Kenwood United Church of Christ
4600 S. Greenwood
Chicago, IL 60653

Community Breakfast

Once a month, 40-80 community members and others in need of food can come and enjoy a nourishing, hot breakfast. This program serves primarily homeless individuals, but has also become a place for older members of the community to meet up and experience a sense of community. This breakfast is purposefully scheduled for before the community food pantry (explained above) so that individuals can attend both events if they choose. For anyone interested in volunteering, please contact the church at office@augustanahydepark.org or 773-493-6451.

Time and Location
3rd Saturday of the month from 9am-10am at
