Hunger Programs

Throughout our many partner organizations, there are four Hunger Programs that we participate in:

The Hyde Park Kenwood Food Pantry

**Update: Hyde Park Kenwood Food Pantry is continuing to serve the community while taking added precautions to protect the most vulnerable populations. The church is looking for volunteers who are NOT medically vulnerable and who are comfortable with physical labor (carrying 20lbs of products up and down stairs) to assist with Saturday food distribution and occasional weekday food deliveries. The church is also in demand of more masks and gloves. For volunteer and donation information, please contact Margy Mitchell at or the church phone: 773-363-6063.

The Hyde Park Kenwood Food Pantry provides non-perishable groceries, fresh produce, eggs, and frozen meat to around 400 people every month.  There is also a case manager available. Boundaries are: 39th Street to 63rd Street, Cottage Grove to Lake Michigan, but we also serve the section of the 60615 zipcode that extends west of Cottage Grove.  Volunteers do physical work: carrying cases of food up and down stairs to our distribution area and back, standing while helping recipients choose food items, helping recipients carry grocery bags upstairs, recycling the cardboard cases, cleaning the storage area, etc. To volunteer, contact Margy Mitchell at  or the church phone: 773-363-6063

Community Breakfast & Love Fridge

**Update: Augustana Lutheran Church has suspended the community breakfast program during the COVID-19 pandemic. The LOVE FRIDGE is still available and very active, located near the North entrance to the building on 55th St. Visit the Love Fridge Website for more info:

Once a month, 40-80 community members and others in need of food can come and enjoy a nourishing, hot breakfast. This program serves primarily homeless individuals, but has also become a place for older members of the community to meet up and experience a sense of community. This breakfast is purposefully scheduled for before the community food pantry (explained above) so that individuals can attend both events if they choose. For anyone interested in volunteering, please contact the church at or 773-493-6451.
